The Gauvreau family represents four generations of entrepreneurs who have contributed for more than 70 years to the development of Sainte-Cécile-de-Masham, a village now merged within the municipality of La Pêche. They first made their mark in the butcher sector and then in the motorized sports vehicle sector at the Gauvreau Ski-Doo dealership.
This entrepreneurial adventure began in 1950 with the founding of the Boucherie Gauvreau Ltée by Hilaire Gauvreau, on the Main Road, just opposite the splendid Sainte-Cécile church. A general store was added later to better serve the Mashamoise community.
In 1963, Hilaire Gauvreau gradually gave up the meat business so that he could indulge in his passion for snowmobiles. He turned his business into a Bombardier® Ski-Doo® dealership, thereby giving birth to Gauvreau Ski-Doo. These small vehicles -easy to maneuver and fun to drive for pleasure and work alike- were a phenomenal hit with the population of Sainte-Cécile-de-Masham and the surrounding area. Clearly, Mr. Gauvreau had made the right decision!
From 1971, Hilaire’s son Gilbert Gauvreau oversaw the development of Gauvreau Ski-Doo. With the help of his wife Laurette Gingras-Gauvreau and his children Jérôme, Francine, Edgar, Normand, Gaétan and Richard, he breathed new life into the company, including the addition of the extensive Can-Am® off-road vehicle line-up.
After the death of Laurette Gingras-Gauvreau in 2014, Jérôme Gauvreau assumed responsibility for managing the dealership, together with his brothers Normand and Gaétan. Under Jérôme’s leadership, Gauvreau Ski-Doo and Matériaux Gauvreau BMR consolidated their presence in the region. Also, with the help of Ghyslain Gauvreau, he orchestrated a rejuvenation of the dealership by opening a new showroom and expanding the two businesses in 2021.
With his youthfulness, passion and desire for renewal, Ghyslain is the embodiment of the new Gauvreau generation. He is always on the lookout for all BRP innovations and pays special attention to the needs of each customer. In addition, thanks to his hard work, Gauvreau Ski-Doo has won the BRP Dealer-of-the-Year title several times.
Over the years, the Gauvreau family has become a major employer in the region. It also supports several local charities as well as snowmobile and quad/autoquad clubs.
